Our new church meets on the first two floors of a tall building in our neighborhood. A few weeks ago, I was outside trying to hang a vinyl sign above the sidewalk, a job much harder than it looks when the wind starts blowing. I must have been making a sight of myself, because a neighbor quickly hurried over to help.
He introduced himself as Mr. Guo’s son, a man in his fifties who often walks by our building. I have noticed him before, standing at a distance and watching our activities with quiet curiosity. The Guo family, like many here, worships many gods and feels great pressure never to enter a church or listen to a sermon for fear of displeasing the spirits.
Once we stepped far enough away from his family’s hearing, his questions began. First, he asked about the church, then about what we believe. As we steadied the sign together, I told him about Jesus and how His resurrection is God’s sign to all nations that Christ sits above every throne, physical and spiritual. I explained that His death paid the price for our guilt before God, and that this is why we came to Taiwan: to make this good news known.
Before we finished talking, he suggested we meet again. So we planned something simple. He will help me with my Chinese, and I will teach him guitar. My hope is that these small steps will open a much bigger door, that Mr. Guo and his whole family might believe on Christ and be saved.
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.”
Acts 16:31
Please pray with us as God continues to work in our neighborhood.
