We are back in Taiwan and thankful to say that life has settled into a steady rhythm again. The kids are doing well—off to Taiwanese school in the mornings and homeschooling in the afternoons. They’ve taken to the routine better than I expected, and our intern, Leah Ganson, has been a big help. Leah will be with us for the year, learning Chinese, making friends, and looking for chances to share the Gospel. We’re already praying that when Leah returns to the States, God will bring along another young lady—or perhaps even a young man—who would be willing to spend a year with us as an intern. It’s a unique opportunity to help with homeschooling, learn Chinese, grow in the Lord, and be part of ministry here in Taiwan. Maybe one of you reading this will pray about it!
One of the highlights this month was hearing Pastor Peyton tell about a young man named Eric. Peyton spends his time with young men like Eric, and God has blessed his efforts many times over. Eric came under conviction of his sin and, right there, trusted Christ as his Savior. In that moment, he was saved—just as the Bible says: “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Romans 10:13). What joy to see a new life begin in Christ!
We’re also encouraged that all of our churches have seen new families and visitors in their services lately. It’s a reminder that God is still at work, still drawing people to Himself.
Looking ahead, our focus this term is on three fronts. First, the Training Center/Seminary: we now have over ten students, studying both full-time and part-time. We’ve even mapped out a four-year schedule, with the fourth year spent as an intern in a new church plant. Our hope is that pastors here will embrace a “two-church model,” always looking to help plant a second church beyond their own borders. Second, Church Planting: we just signed the rental contract for church plant #6! The building will also serve as our homeschool and training center space. And third, Countryside Evangelism: my heart has always leaned toward the small towns, and we’re excited to begin reaching into them more intentionally this term. We’re praying God will call a man to dedicate himself to that work full-time.
Before I close, a special note: Second Mile Baptist Church is very close to purchasing a permanent piece of property. That’s a big step forward, and we’d appreciate your prayers.
God has been so faithful to us here, and I’m glad to be able to share these blessings with you.
Warmly,
John Walz and Family
