Return to Taiwan 2025: August Update

Since landing just a few weeks ago, we have already experienced two typhoons! Thankfully, we have remained safe and dry. The storms reminded us how quickly things can change, but also how steady the Lord remains in every season. We have nearly finished setting up our home and have already begun visiting buildings that might serve as a space for both homeschooling and a future church plant. Please pray with us for wisdom as we seek the Lord’s direction.

This past Sunday, we had the privilege of attending the 10th anniversary of Compass Baptist Church, the first church we planted after arriving in Taiwan years ago. Peyton and Carmen Ling now lead the church and are doing a wonderful job. Please continue praying for them as they disciple believers and seek a permanent property for their growing congregation.

While in town, I met with Peyton and also with Sam, another faithful brother who is investing in young men for ministry. These men are now discipling others, and some of them may soon join us in planting new churches. Our goal is still clear: 25 churches in this city. With five established, we are praying for 20 more faithful men to rise up and preach the Gospel. Will you pray with us for God to raise up these laborers?

We are also praying over three new directions the Lord may be leading us into:

First, the development of a training center or seminary. Over the last ten years, we have prepared 19 courses that form a four-year curriculum. With a few more teachers, whether pastors, missionaries, or local leaders, we could establish a Bible college here in Taiwan. We are currently praying over a list of eight possible instructors.

Second, the call to reach the villages and countryside surrounding our city. One such place is Qishan, where Sam planted Second Mile Baptist Church. God has blessed the work there with converted souls and a growing body. We believe Qishan is just the beginning. Please pray that the Lord would raise up a Taiwanese family or missionary team to continue this work in the rural towns.

Lastly, we are asking God to begin raising up missionaries from Taiwan. This is a long-term hope, but we believe it is rooted in God’s heart for the nations. It may take years, but we are praying now for God to place a burden on the hearts of our men for the countries across the water.

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
