“The Lord Hath Made Bare His Arm”

How_to_Roll_Up_Sleeves_01The Lord hath made bare His holy arm in the eyes of all the nations; and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.

Isaiah 52:10

It is typical to find highly poetic metaphors in the prophets.  In the interest of literally interpreting the Bible, the student would do well to familiarize himself or herself with the metaphors from the day, which may not have the intention of a literal meaning such as in this case.

To bare the arms is equivalent to our way of saying “Rolling up the sleeves” and get to work.  The Lord is busy about His work of salvation, His attention is fully on the matter insomuch that the whole world will know of it.  Therefore He has rolled up his sleeves and bared His arms in the rigor of this work on our behalf.
