Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.
Luke 10:4
In this passage, Jesus is sending out His disciples by two’s to go and preach. He also tells them to carry no purse, nor scrip, nor shoes, nor to salute anyone on their way. Wouldn’t it be rude to ignore someone you recognized walking past them without stopping to see how they’re doing? Perhaps it would. But that’s precisely the point. The Christian on a mission from God to preach the Gospel is sent out with all urgency. Jesus wants us to realize how important and urgent the matter of souls dying and going to hell is. This short saying simply calls for us to put the Gospel in priority in our lives, do not delay in getting it to the one lost that needs it today.
