Psalm 14

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God.

For one to be foolish, one does not need to verbally express his or her independence from God.  One only needs to “say” it in their heart.  What we speak to our heart is indicated by how we spend our time.  A person could very well express with their lips that there is a God, but that expression will not bring any sort of benefit until it becomes knowledge of the heart. The person’s life this verse is describing is “corrupt”, and that must be because this person lives life, gets out of bed, goes to work, makes daily choices without any sort of God-consciousness.

As a missionary, I live in a country of “foolish” people who are ignorant to the God that made them. God’s plan for dealing with this is God’s people who carry the message of reconciliation to them.  But as a pastor, we have churches full of people who might confess with their lips, but their hearts are no where near God.  I fear for them, and I fear for my own sake.  I know how easy it is to allow the “old man” take control and pull one away from God and begin living as though He isn’t there.

Our lives are a vapor, and we only have a short time to make a difference in the world.  The only difference that is worth making is bringing the lost the Savior and encouraging His people to do the same.  All other works are corrupt, they won’t “amount to a hill of beans” after Jesus comes back in the day of judgement.

O God, strengthen my hands today with boldness to live for you.  May you be the source of my strength and motivation to do what is right.  Fill me with your wisdom that I might live for Jesus today, Amen.
