Ch. 4
The power of the Gospel and the light of its truth, like in creation, illuminates the darkness of people’s hearts. Those who receive the truth of Jesus contain a treasure, an everlasting gift that when compared to our dying bodies testifies this power is from God.
Even though receivers of this grace possess dying bodies, the truth of Jesus keeps us from falling into despair, a place of no hope. This in turn testifies of the power of God working in us to do things no dying body could accomplish. And so a truth of Christian living is revealed, the more we die to ourselves, the more Christ is glorified, because in human weakness, it is obvious when God’s power manifests itself in that weakness.
This undying hope enables us to focus on the sure hope of Jesus’ promises, a resurrected incorruptible body. Through focusing on Him and the glory ahead, we may look past the present things that trouble us; they will soon be gone, and we will inherit eternal things that will not expire.
