Psalms 9-11

Chapter 9. David praises God with his whole heart (9:1), knowing that even though he faces his enemies and they appear to have some amount of strength, God just character will not allow any to get away with their sin (9:7-9). David explains to us two kinds of judgement, one in favor of the oppressed(9:12), and the other is executed on the guilty (9:16). Because of God’s just character, mad avid finds much in God to praise and trust in. David knows wicked men will not prevail against those whom the Lord favors (9:19-20).

Chapter 10. David fives the honest thoughts of the wicked. Pride leads men to think the are invincible (10:6). Do not the philosophies of the day lead men to think this way? If Darwin was true in his thinking, would not every man have reason to believe man is the most intelligent in the universe? These are the prideful conclusions of the wicked. The wicked man mistakes God’s mercy for silence. Man is lead to think he will not be judged for the things he’s done in secret or boastfully (10:11). The idea of two sort of judgements is repeated from chapter 9. The wicked won’t get away with it and the oppressed will receive judgment for their behalf (11:17-18).

Chapter 11. How faithful a refuge is the Lord for the righteous(11:1)? The wicked may ask this question to deride, but we only repeat the question for contemplation (11:3). The very questions the wicked ask only gives the righteous the right topics to meditate on. Is the LORD sovereign over us? Does He see what men do? Does He know our thoughts and the thoughts of the wicked? Does He love His own? Satan once asked, “Hath God said?” Indeed He has, He has spoken and His words are true. The LORD tests the righteous(11:5), He makes their faith stronger. The wicked are destined for judgement (11:6), there will be a world one day purged from evil. The LORD loves the righteous and He blesses them. (11:7)
