Job’s story provide many challenges who hold a single view of God. Because of Job’s plight, Job asks a myriad of questions that remained largely unanswered. The reader however is privy of some information that Job did not have at the time (1:6). 1:1-3 lets us know of the riches Job possessed and his interity. Job later in this book explains later why God blessed him with great abundance (Job 29:13-17), it let this portion of Scripture make it known, that simply being wealthy is not sin. Job was a man of integrity and a good model for those who may possess great riches. What we know that Job doesn’t know is that God has a meeting in heaven and God seems to have intentionally turned Satan’s attention to Job. Before we flood heavens gates with accusations and questions, we should consider the rest of the book. God wanted this story in the Bible, He wanted us to see Job’s reactions of which all of heaven’s host witnessed and glorified God (1:21-22). Satan’s accusations and schemes fell completely flat when he challenged God directly, so we too should know there’s more to the story if we are “destroyed without a cause.”(2:3) More on Job next week.
