This is a Psalm that found its way into the Proverbs no doubt by the hand of Solomon who learned from the wisdom of his father. The “inward thought” v.11 of the man who “trusts in their wealth” v.6 is believing they will leave behind some sort of legacy that will justify their financial hoarding v.11. They build buildings or claim land to call after their own name. God says this life is “folly, supremely foolish way to live to build ones own homie or ensure ones own comfort at the expense your eternal soul. People accept the foolishness of the wealthy as wisdom, but only because of the outward appearance of their riches, think about this.
13 This their way is their folly: yet their prosperity approve their sayings. Selah
The honor one could buy dies with him along with their wealth v.12
17 For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.
Wealth is false, honor is false, glory is false because death will soon have it. All of these things are for the living, and we be all dead men.
But put your trust in Jesus and live for Him rather than riches. He is living and worthy to receive our honor and our riches. So be rich toward God. We were not created to live for money, but to live for God, linger awhile on this.
15 But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.
