This chapter will make anyone glad who loves God. In contrast, it leaves God haters out in the cold, destitute with no hope. The concept of a clear conscience seems almost foreign to us, but imagine the blessing being guilt free of ANY sin.
Imagine having a heart free from a nature of deception, and covered by forgiveness.
The incorruptible seed grows incorruptible fruit in the heart. Anyone who loves God will hate it when there is something in the heart displeasing to Him.
David explains his experience when he tries to keep his sin quiet.
“When I kept silence, my bones waxed old
through my roaring all the day long.
For day and night thy hand was heavy upon me:
my moisture is turned into the drought of summer. Selah.” -Psalm 32:3-4
We know from the context what he tried keeping quiet about, his sin.
Psalms 32:5
I acknowledged my sin unto thee,
and mine iniquity have I not hid.
I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the Lord;
and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin. Selah.
But the heart that has been given to God will find the conviction a constant appeal for confessions and forsaking sin. Verse 5 tells us though the believer belongs to God, the presence of sin will abide, but what separates the godly between the ungodly is willing confession of sin in the heart. The godly wishes no dark areas of the heart to be able to continue its breeding of sin. Instead they bring what is shadowed into the light. In order to do that the godly contemplates on his sin. Indeed to be able to acknowledge ones sin is to first have knowledge of it. Confessing our sin to God is not to debrief God on what He already knows, but to rehearse before God the ugliness of our sin so that we may turn from it. It’s good for our relationship with The Lord to be able to name our sin, to make it clear in our minds the thing that God hates.
Psalms 32:6-7
For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found:
surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.
Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble;
thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.
The godly tell God how much they depend on Him before they come into calamity. The godly recognize His sovereignty particularly over times of peace than in despair.
For the rest and the ungodly who retain their distance from Him, except in times of trouble, God does not ensure their deliverance. But for those who finds God before the storm begins will have their assurances in His mighty arms. Is all around you at peace? Think about what this means.
Psalms 32:8-9
I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go:
I will guide thee with mine eye.
Be ye not as the horse,
or as the mule, which have no understanding:
whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle,
lest they come near unto thee.
The Lord wishes for His people to learn and have the knowledge of wisdom in
their heart. Rather than choosing to lead us around by raw emotion, He has chosen for God seekers to learn the paths and have discernment in the heart.
Psalms 32:10-11
Many sorrows shall be to the wicked:
but he that trusteth in the Lord, mercy shall compass him about.
Be glad in the Lord, and rejoice, ye righteous:
and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart.
God showed the world righteousness in the heart begins and ends with the Lamb, Jesus Christ the Alpha and the Omega. We must all first become weak to become to strong, first sorrowful to become glad, first a sinner to become righteous through the resurrected Lord.
