1 Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul. 2 O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies trump over me. 3 Yea, let not that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause….20 O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee.
If you lift up your soul to God it means you hope in God with the most inner part on your being. This hope we have will never be ashamed, meaning God will never let that hope down. He wants us to trust Him and to look to Him always. Clearly, David is going through a tough time here. Enemies are at his door, “19 Consider my enemies; for they are many…” and David is realizing with his heart the magnitude of his own sins, “11 For thy name’s sake, O LORD, pardon mine iniquity; for it is great.” But what David is finding here that in these tribulations with enemies on the outside and sin on the inside is that the LORD never puts to shame the trust David has for Him. The LORD never lets him down. After you’ve been through enough tribulations with the LORD, exercising faith in Him, this will produce steadfastness in you. It will provide the experience of a tested faith. How reliable is the LORD? Trusting God through tribulations will tell. It produces a hope in Him that will never be ashamed.
