John 16:7-12

John 16:7-12

In a world full of sorrow, I only have one true sorrow, being away from Jesus. It was best for Him to leave us though, as we all are in need of an Advocate, a High Counsellor to plead our case before a Holy God. The Counsellor/Comforter ensures I’ll see Jesus again, blameless and prepared for His return.

The world also needed One to reprove their wrong. We can never forget the part the Holy Spirit has in the conviction of sin and prompting to repentance. The world is a faithless place, full of the spiritual dead without the ability to seek God, a spritual Valley of Dry Bones . Our human arguments are powerless to raise these from the dead. No amount of scientific data or clever speeches will ever take the place of God in the conviction and regeneration of a soul.

The testimony of the universe is only enough to condemn each person, knowing full well of the existence of a moral law written every heart (Rom 1). But its the Holy Spirit that brings conviction. Conviction which many feel after the Word is preached is not the same as repentance, but without it repentance cannot happen. The regeneration of a human soul begins and ends with the Holy Spirit.
