Serving When It’s Convenient Ephesians 6:5-8

Got another toe stomper today. My toes are all bruised up from yesterday’s still!

If we only serve when people are watching then it means we are only serving ourself and aren’t really servants at all.  Serving and humility are not means to end, but these two qualities are the perpetual end of a mature Christian life.  I say “perpetual” end because God expects us to have humility all the time even after He promotes us for humble service.

Just like the Pharisees who prayed on the street corners we also will find no reward from The Lord for services rendered to gain the hearts of men.  We become Paul says “menpleasers”.

But let us serve out of a heart for The Lord, like the heart of Mary Magdalene who served at Jesus’ feet motived by love and thankfulness.  She was also motived by the poor treatment Jesus received by the pharisees who failed to treat Jesus with the dignity deserving of a Jewish master, let alone the great I AM.

If we do this, then we will have much to look forward to from the hands of Him Whom we serve, and it matters not at all what capacity we hold in this life, only that we serve others as though we are serving Him.
